Editorial

Welcome to 2009. I hope that the break over Christmas was restful and nourishing for you and that this new year will bring abundance into your lives. With the committee deciding to go forward with a research project with the aim of validating biodynamic massage in the therapeutic and medical world I am excited to see where this takes us as an organisation over the next few years. I hope that this Journal will be a vehicle for reflecting the developments along the way and that you will all feel inspired to risk sharing your professional and personal experiences as we go along.

There are two articles from membersı experience in this edition: Sally Ridgway has done the very difficult she has put into words how she works, how she approaches the needs of her clients and what influences and inspires her the most. Her breadth of training and experience comes across clearly.

Kate Codrington has written inspiringly on working with pregnant women in their first trimester. What she shares is valuable background to the physiology involved, experience of the most therapeutic massage techniques for both mother and baby as well as clear contraindications for working. I recommend both articles and thank them on behalf of the readers for their contributions.

Quite a number of readers have expressed to me their desire for more book reviews in the journal. As a result the Committee have agreed to offer a free book (or the money in lieu) to one reviewer in each journal edition.

For the next edition we are offering a free copy of the recently published Contemporary Body Psychotherapy - The Chiron Approachı to anyone interested in reviewing chapter 2: Biodynamic massage as a body therapy and as a tool in body psychotherapy by Monika Schaible.

Also in this edition:
In honour of his contribution to our field, there is an obituary of Alexander Lowen who sadly died in the Autumn of last year.
There are a number of information slots which I encourage you to read as well as the usual guide to courses being held at the three schools and elsewhere.

I hope that you enjoy the journal.

Best wishes, Ruth Hoskins
